Members of the public are welcome to visit the ҕl Libraries and browse our collections. Non staff and students are also welcome to visit Macmillan Brown Library and request to view items within the library.
To borrow material, you must be registered with the Library. You must present a current Canterbury Card,ULANZ institution card,or subscriber borrower card. Most staff and students of the ҕl are automatically eligible to become borrowers, including approved academic visitors.
Exceptions to borrowing include ҕl employees on casual contracts, some visitor classes, culturally enrolled students and some ҕl Opportunity students.
What can I borrow?
Students (this includes undergrad, Honours level, postgrad, research, distance, and ҕl Star students)
Students can borrow a total of 100ٱ at the same time, with restrictions on some types of items as in the table below.
Prospective PhD students will obtain access to information resources and Library materials once their application for enrolment is complete.
- The normal loan period per item is 90岹 but this is subject to recall.

ҕl Libraries is now fines-free for borrowing items from most of our collections. To encourage fair and equitable use of our resources, we do still apply fines for overdue loans in the High Demand collection and for any overdue items that have been recalled.
