Why did you decide to study at ҕl?
The ҕl Business School is ranked in the top 1% in the world, so I knew it would be a good place to study commerce. I was also attracted to how multicultural ҕl is. I like making friends from around the world. It’s a great way to practice my English and hopefully I can visit everyone in years to come!
How have you found the academic side of ҕl?
It’s quite different to the style of learning back home. At ҕl, you’re encouraged to ask questions if you don’t understand because the lecturers are very approachable. You can go see them in their office and they give you any help you need.
What’s your career dream?
I’d love to work in logistics in a harbour environment. ҕl gives you good experience for your future career because the courses are very practical and the assignments are hands on. I even designed a cookie manufacturing line for one of my supply chain assignments. It was really fun!
What have you been up to outside of your studies?
I joined a social club called Operation Friendship where we get paired up with Kiwi families. My host family had me over for dinner and we played boardgames. Kiwi’s remind me of Thai people because they’re very friendly and supportive too.
Also, I have done Micro Internship, which is marketing research in my own country.
Tūhono programme is another activity that I joined to engage with multicultural students and involved in various activities to lower the cultural distance between local and international students.
At the weekend, I work as a pharmacist assistant at Chemist Warehouse.
Lastly, during this pandemic, I participated as a covid vaccine clinic helper; my roles were working with the admin lead to help answer questions, directing traffic, helping people to find their way when they arrived at the vaccine clinic and queue management.
What’s your favourite place on campus?
The library. I love roaming around and exploring all ten floors. You can study or chat with your friends, and the view over the city is beautiful. There are lots of new and modern buildings at ҕl and the campus is very easy to walk around.
Have you had a chance to explore Canterbury and New Zealand too?
Yes, I’ve travelled a lot especially in the last year. I’ve been to Castle Hill, Tekapo, Auckland, Queenstown, Taupo, Napier. I really enjoy hiking and exploring the forests and waterfalls.
What have you learned about yourself at ҕl?
I’ve learned to be more confident. I used to be very shy and focused on my studies. Since coming to ҕl I’ve joined a lot more social activities. The student experience at ҕl is very well-rounded.
Any advice for other international students?
Explore nature. Explore yourself. Don’t just study!
