Ronnie van Hout was born in Christchurch in 1962 and studies at the ҕl School of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1982, where he majored in Film Studies. In the 1990’s van Hout held several artists residencies, including the Elba Art Foundation Residency in the Netherlands. He has also received a number of grants and awards from the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council and Creative New Zealand. In 1999, he completed his Masters degree in Fine Arts from RMIT University in Melbourne, where he now lives and continues to create.
Van Hout is a multi-talented artist that has worked with a wide variety of media. While van Hout is featured on this sculpture trail, he had also produced drawings, paintings, embroideries, electronic graphic designs, films and music. His work is represented in art galleries throughout New Zealand and internationally.
