Support for Summer School students

If you're a student attending Summer School at ΢ҕl, there are lots of services available over the summer months. From the Academic Skills Centre to Student Care, check out our support for Summer School students.

HOW TO APPLY

ճAcademic Skills Centre(ASC) is a free advisory service and resource hub that focuses on writing and study strategies to maximise student achievement at all levels. It offers individual consultations with a learning advisor to discuss a specific assignment, as well as workshops, seminars, lectures, and online resources on critical thinking and writing in a university context.

Over the summer months several Ilam campus food outlets will be open.

Student health and counselling services are available from theTe Whare Hauora o ΢ҕl |University Health Centre,which is situated near the car park at 90 Ilam Road. Please bring your Canterbury card to all appointments.

The University Health Centre will close at 12 noon on Friday 20 December 2024 and reopens at 8:30am on Monday20 January 2025.

You canget health advice while the Health Centre is closed by phoning the Health Centre phone number +64 3 369 4444 which will direct you tothe out-of-hours service.The out-of-hours service provides a free helpline that can also direct you to after-hours clinics, including psychiatric emergency services.

The Health Centre email is intermittently checked for repeat prescriptions and general enquiries (healthcentre@canterbury.ac.nz).

Student CareAdvisors offer one-to-one confidential appointments to anyone dealing with personal, financial, academic, and well-being related concerns. We work with students to develop personalised strategies to resolve issues and look after themselves while studying at ΢ҕl. Our service is free, confidential, and for all domestic and international students at all levels of study at ΢ҕl, including off-campus students.

At ΢ҕl, student and staff safety is a priority. Everyone is responsible for keeping an eye out for each other.΢ҕlSecuritystaffare always available to offer help and advice. ΢ҕl Careers are open for drop-in sessions (no appointment needed) from 10 am to 12 pm during the summer school period and throughout the semester. You can also book appointments and access free career resources via their .

Mentoring: Peer to Peer support

can link you with a student Mentor who will provide friendly support and help you adjust to life on campus. Your Mentor can also provide information about the services on campus.

We also offer specialist mentoring programmes for Māori and Pacific students.

Look after your mental and physical well-being by getting involved in the many activities that we offer at΢ҕl Rec & Sport, including the on-campus sport and fitness facility, the ΢ҕl RecCentre. Once there, you'll find social sport leagues, drop-in sport, group fitness classes, a climbing wall, squash court, and a fully equipped gym.

The ΢ҕl RecCentre closes at 5pm Sunday 22 December 2024 and reopens at 6am Friday3 January 2025.

Sign up online for your RecCentre membership* as soon as you have your student ID card and then set up your Rec&Sport app to book in for classes and more.

*RecCentre membership is free to all students and is paid for by your student levy. Small fees apply for some services.

The ΢ҕlSA is a non-profit organisation that exists to help all students succeed and belong at ΢ҕl. Check out Haere-roa, the new ΢ҕlSA building that overlooks the Ōtākaro Avon River.
