Kiwi Competitions

The Centre for Assessment and Monitoring (CAM) provides the annual KIWI English, Mathematics, Science, and Spelling Bee competitions for Primary and Secondary schools. These competitions are skills-based and closely align with the New Zealand Curriculum.

HOW TO APPLY

CAM provides the annual KIWI English, Mathematics, Science and Spelling Bee competitions for Primary and Secondary schools.

The annual CAM Kiwi English, Mathematics and Science competitions are skills-based and closely align with the New Zealand Curriculum. Students must be in years 5-10 to participate. The tests are designed by New Zealand teachers for New Zealand students.

Information for Parents and Schools - Accessing practice materials and past papers from CAM.Current and historical test papers and competitions are not made available to the public. Test papers/items are not made available to parents or schools. Reasons for withholding are outlined within the Official Information Act section 9(2) 'Other reasons for withholding official information', and in particular in reference to preventing the disclosure or use of official information for improper gain or improper advantage, and to protect the commercial position of CAM. Please contactrecords@canterbury.ac.nzfor further information regarding this.

Schools are provided with information on the test format and some of this information is readily available on the CAM website.

If you have any questions, please contact the school concerned. Your school may or may not choose not to do all the CAM assessments and competitions.

The CAM competitions are currently offered at the Curriculum and Year levels shown below:

The tests are administered online and take 50 minutes to complete so they can be conveniently slotted into the school timetable.

Prices

The cost per student for each competition $9.90 (incl. GST).

Registration

Register your schools intention to take part in the competition.

  • Further information will be sent once registration is received.
  • Please note - Students might be registered through their school.

After the registration/log in process and your students entered and confirmed, we will provide you access to unique user codes and passwords that will enable your students to login to the competition.

Reporting of Results

Results are provided to schools in term 3. The competition will provide parents/caregivers with an Individual Student Report of the student's performance. All participating students will receive a certificate and a prize will be awarded to the top student nationally in each competition.
