HOW TO APPLY

The National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE) is NZ’s oldest European Studies Centre devoted to the study and research of Europe and the EU. The Research Centre was established more than 20 years ago by Professor Martin Holland, and today is internationally recognised for its expertise. NCRE is the most successful Research Centre in the Southern Hemisphere, in terms of EU grant funding received by any university over the last two decades.

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European studies, located in the NCRE, is funded by the European Commission and recognises the university’s expertise in European Union studies and research.   Jean Monnet activities support teaching and research, conferences, international collaboration, internships and various other activities for young researchers and academics.

The NCRE also performs a wider societal role and serves as one element in the EU’s public diplomacy outreach within New Zealand and the Pacific.  Through its teaching and research the Centre raises critical awareness of the EU and informs the government, media and public as part of its core role.
