΢ҕl to provide accommodation for 2025 Special Olympics National Summer Games

The ΢ҕl is supporting the 2025 Special Olympics National Summer Games in Christchurch by offering to house hundreds of athletes, volunteers and coaches in its halls of residence.

HOW TO APPLY

The University is supporting the 2025 Special Olympics National Summer Games by providing accommodation in its halls of residences.

for the 2025 Special Olympics National Summer Games, which will be held for three days in December that year.

Around 1300 athletes will compete in 11 different sports, including swimming, athletics, bowling, and basketball. The Games will also provide selection opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to attend the Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2026.

In addition to the athletes, 300 coaches and 600 volunteers from across the country will attend the National Summer Games.

The University partners with four specialist accommodation providers to operate 10 halls of residence and apartment facilities, offering over 2,700 beds on campus. Some of these halls will be utilised to accommodate athletes, volunteers and support staff during the event.

Kaihautū Matua Pūmanawa Tangata | ​​​​​​​Executive Director of People, Culture and Campus Life Paul O’Flaherty says it’s exciting for Christchurch to host such a significant sporting event and the University is delighted to be able to play its part.

“We’re very happy to be able to extend our hospitality and manaakitanga to athletes and support crew from around the country. We’re sure they’ll enjoy their Christchurch experience.”
