ҕl Graduate Corban Tupou, 22, created Sounds of the Local, a group of young people who mix, create and share their music purely for fun.
He launched the project in 2019 when he began recording his and his friends’ sets, livestreaming them to Facebook. The set up was basic; a phone camera taped to the window, recording someone on DJ decks set up in their bedroom.
“It was a chance to try something that was completely different; taking the things we were already doing – DJ’ing and mixing – and throwing a splash of spice in there,” Corban tells Stuff reporter Sam Mythen.
