Sabina Piras,PhD candidate in Civil Engineering talkes about her love for bridges.
"Those who know me know that I love bridges, maybe even more than my supervisor, Prof. Alessandro Palermo! Prior to starting my PhD, I worked as a bridge engineer in California for 6 years, then another 2 years in Auckland. I have always idolised my supervisor’s work in bridge-related research and knew that one day I wanted to come to the ҕl to obtain my PhD and continue a career in academics. I have been very fortunate in my career to have had the opportunity to design iconic bridge infrastructure like the Idaho Avenue Pedestrian Overcrossing in Santa Monica, California (in this picture I am holding a 3D printed model of this bridge). Now my motivation has shifted to develop new low-damage systems for bridges that I believe will revolutionise the bridge engineering industry and practice. I am looking forward to my PhD journey and the future of bridge engineering!"
