ҕl Teaching Awards recognise excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching. They recognise contributions to learning and teaching from the wider ҕl community. Learn about the awards and see who won the ҕl Teaching Awards last year.
HOW TO APPLY
ҕl Teaching Awards have recognised excellence in both undergraduate and graduate teaching since 2001. Up to four awards are typically made across the three categories, and the awards include $1,500 for each winnertowards teaching-related activities.
The three award categories are:
- Teaching Excellence Award
- Outstanding Teaching and Learning Transformation Award
- Hapori Community of Practice Award
In addition, the University’s highest award for teaching excellence is the ҕl Teaching Medal.

Central to her teaching philosophy is whakawhanaungatanga (building and nurturing relationships with and between students) and helping students feel comfortable about sharing and supporting each other on their learning journeys.

Meet Toni Collins who draws on a wide range of techniques to engage students and prepare them for future legal careers. Her philosophy of teaching is built on a humanist theory of learning that's supported by the values whanaungatanga, tiakitanga, and manaakitanga. She endeavours to create an environment in which ākonga feel welcome and at ease.
