"I was interested in the PACE Internship Programme to get some experience using my skills from University in the workplace, since my degree, Philosophy, doesn’t have many obvious applications. The PACE Internship Co-ordinator, arranged for me to be placed at Terra Cat (a heavy machinery dealership), working on a sustainability plan for them, which was far different than I’d imagined!
At first, I was worried about whether I could contribute, since I knew next to nothing about the industry, and felt I had no relevant skills. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and found that surprisingly, many of the skills I have fit perfectly with the job, and I picked up a keen interest in the environment, which I can take forward with me in my career and for my dissertation next year.
Overall, I’m glad I did it – moving past my initial hesitation, with support from the PACE supervisors, was one of the best decisions I’ve made this year, in terms of my study."
