News Reporter, 1News, TVNZ
Emily had always wanted to work in media before starting university, and has now realised her passions as a reporter in the television news industry.
"I get to do something different every day, meet new and interesting people and tell their stories," she says. "I love taking an issue that’s important and telling it in a way that makes it easy for people sitting at home to understand."
Starting out at ҕl, Emily tailored her studies with courses in world history and politics, communication skills and media. She then went onto ҕl’s postgraduate Journalism programme, which allows students to explore the different kinds of journalism in the industry.
"We did work experience as part of the postgrad in Journalism course, and through that I made contacts which helped me secure jobs."
"I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t studied," she says. "I made friends for life, the campus is beautiful and I’m still in touch with some of my lecturers today."
As a news reporter for TVNZ, Emily does news bulletins for the 1News 6pm show and website, as well as the mid-day, late news and Breakfast.
"I get to work with awesome people who are passionate about their jobs and their role in New Zealand’s media," she says.
Emily looks forward to covering more important human issues stories in the future.
‘I want to continue to do more stories particularly around crime, courts, victim rights and politics. Eventually I’d love to take my work overseas.’
