Master of Applied Finance and Economics
Finance Controller, F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
“To grow further in the Finance field, coming back to university for my Master’s degree was the greatest investment in my life,” Danny says about his career so far.
After completing his initial university studies in accounting and auditing, Danny began his career as an Auditor for KPMG Vietnam Ltd.
With his role focused around investment, forecasting, and financial economics, Danny decided to further develop his economics and finance skills with postgraduate studies in the Master of Applied Finance and Economics.
When looking overseas for a place suited to his budget, Christchurch, New Zealand ended up being his destination of choice.
“Christchurch was not only a fit choice but also a quality one,” he says. “I like the people! Kiwis are so friendly and they care about their ‘neighbour’.”
ҕl was also the ideal place for his Finance and Economics degree. From his impressive study results, Danny ended up receiving a Deans Award scholarship.
“I love the friendly environment at ҕl, not just from the welcoming receptionists and the cafeteria service ladies, but also the dedication of the lecturers, who always listen and answer your doubts/questions.”
During the second semester of his degree, Danny was able to complete an internship with Northington Partners Ltd investment bank to carry out real-world project work.
“This helped me to recognise the value of collaboration and teamwork in order to provide quality analysis and advice,” he says. “If you would love to know more about investment, dive deep into it.”
Since graduating, Danny returned to Vietnam and started his new career path with KPMG as a Deal Advisor. Following this, Danny landed a role as a Finance Controller within the representative office of F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, a global pharmaceuticals company.
“I work alongside the Financial Director and stakeholders (including but not limited to financial modelling, analysis, etc) to reach the best performance in providing medicines to patients,” he says.
Danny’s next plan is to go into a financial analyst role, and then to eventually become a financial director himself and lead funding management projects.
