To celebrate the launch of the Canterbury Tales online exhibition, the James Hight Library, ҕl, hosted a physical display of several key books and objects. The exhibition took pride of place in specially designed cabinets on the main floor of the Central Library, able to be accessed by students, staff, and members of the general public. Four pairs of items were presented to great success - a pair from each category of the online exhibtion. The items on show included a rare carved marble head, the Canterbury Sallust, Captain Cook's A Voyage Towards the South Pole and Round the World, and a Tongan carved female figure, as well as Francis Russell's "Waimakariri" Waltz and a brass gimballed candle. A specially autographed copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass was exhibited with a wooden box and microscope slides. The following photos show the exhibition in situ.
