DLTP: Distributed Leadership in Teaching Programme

΢ҕl’s Distributed Leadership in Teaching Development Programme offers prestigious scholarships for recipients with sufficient time and funds to explore their curiosity as they engage in teaching and learning.

HOW TO APPLY

How Does the Programme Work?

The three-stage programme is designed to run over two years.

  1. During the Development stage, scholars will be expected to work with colleagues to design a research (action) based project that can include peers, and that also has significant alignment to College and University Learning and Teaching Plans.
  2. The Engagement Stage focuses on actioning the research and working with other teaching colleagues. As findings become clearer, and teaching development/ interventions increase, the engagement phase will begin to produce observable and measurable outcomes.
  3. The final Reflection stageis where scholars are expected to reflect on and share findings.

Appointments will have a fixed upper limit of two years to ensure scholars remain focused on completing their respective projects on time.

Co-Location

Teaching Development Scholars will physically co-locate one day per week toAko Anamata | Future Learning and Developmentto provide space from scholars' day-to-day responsibilities, and to develop a community of practice alongside other teaching development staff and scholars.

Funding

Up to five scholarships will be awarded each year and scholars will be funded $10,000 to be spent over two years. These funds will be used to support research (be that an assistant or other operational support costs) and to enable conference attendance where appropriate. Funds will be required to be used in the year allocated. Financial compensation will be paid to the department over the duration of the appointment.

Selection Criteria

The successful DLTP projects will address ΢ҕl strategic priorities and build developmental capacity for collaborative problem-solving through authentic, practice-based teaching development.

The current core themes that we would like projects to focus on are:

  • Artificial intelligence tools (e.g. AI text generators) and their use in teaching and learning frameworks.
  • Digital badging and/or cross-disciplinary offerings or cross-course badging (between institutions).
  • Community building in online and blended spaces.
  • Augmented reality/VR or other innovative classroom experiences.
  • Innovative technology use that promotes mastery of skills and concepts, such as adaptive learning tools.
  • Bolstering outcomes for Māori/Pasifika learners (success, retention, completion).
  • Models of blended/hybrid learning that improve learner outcomes.

There is also funding for up tothreeadditionalprojects, awarded in the same manner, which are available through theAko ā-Mahi | Work Integrated Learning Team. These projects have the following core themes:

  • Pedagogy of human beings, focussing on habits of mind, heart and hand – developing a whole student approach to WIL pedagogy at ΢ҕl.
  • Enhancing the first-year student experience with professional and experiential learning opportunities in a virtual or blended classroom.
  • How do you meaningfully build career development learning and work-integrated learning into a programme curriculum?

The following factors should be considered in developing a project:

  • Alignment with faculty teaching and learning plans.
  • Alignment with ΢ҕl’s teaching and learning priorities.
  • Transferability of intended outcomes across disciplines, programmes and faculties.
  • Collaboration with teaching peers for greater benefit.
  • Ability of project objectives to be met within the time frame and within budget.

Applicants must also:

  • Demonstrate a track record in quality teaching as evidenced by things such as SET surveys, teaching awards, and teaching fellowships.
  • Demonstrate understanding and application of bicultural competency in teaching endeavours.
  • Have the capacity to work collaboratively and constructively with others to more broadly influence colleagues across the university to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Be able to be relieved from the equivalent FTE duties for the length of the tenure.
  • Be a permanent member of staff at ΢ҕl.
  • Be able to identify peers who are willing to participate in the intended project.
