Master of Mathematical Sciences
Introduction
ҕl's Master of Mathematical Sciences (MMathSci) offers flexible study to upskill in mathematics, data, and statistics. Through project work you will demonstrate your capacity for independent thinking, and if achieved at an appropriate standard, this degree will also prepare you for entry into doctoral programmes.
You will develop advanced analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills that will enable you to improve upon existing practices in the mathematical sciences, and position yourself as a future leader in your field of work.

Entry requirements
You will need to have completed a bachelor's degree in a subject relevant to mathematics (or other approved subjects), and have passed at least 60 points of your 300-level courses with at least a B grade average.
You may also enrol with other relevant qualifications of an equivalent standard, with approval.
If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet ҕl's English language requirements.

How do I plan my degree?
The Master of Mathematical Sciences is made up of 180 points, including elective courses in a range of relevant subjects, and either a thesis or project.
You may complete the MMathSci unendorsed, or endorsed in one of the following:
- Computational and Applied Mathematics
- Data Science
- Financial Engineering
- Mathematics
- Statistics
ҕl begins in February or July, and can be completed in 18 months full-time, or part-time for up to 3 years.

You can choose to complete the MMathSci unendorsed, or endorsed in one of the options below.
Unendorsed pathway
- MASC684 MMathSci Project (45 points) OR MASC686 MMathSci Project (60 points)
Depending on which project course you take, you will also complete another 45 or 60 points in any approved 400-level courses at ҕl.
Plus 75 points chosen from the following:
- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Data Science (excluding DATA401)
Endorsement pathways
Choose from either Computational and Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.
Computational and Applied Mathematics
Plus 90 points of 400-level courses chosen from:
- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Data Science (excluding DATA401)
With approval, up to 45 points can be chosen from other appropriate courses at ҕl.
Data Science
- DATA689 MMathSci Thesis (Data Science)
- One 400-level MATH or STAT course (excluding STAT462 and STAT448)
- One 400-level COSC course (excluding COSC480)
- One course chosen from DATA425-480
Plus another 45 points in other approved 400-level courses.
Financial Engineering
- FENG689 MMathSci Thesis (Financial Engineering)
- 30 points chosen from 600-level FINC courses
